Mirza Mahmud Ahmad’s magazine calls Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as one of the Mujaddids of Islam

Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad, Khalifa of the Qadianis, was the founder and editor of the monthly magazine Tashhiz-ul-azhan. In the issues of this magazine for April and May 1908, published near the death of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, there are articles in which it is clearly stated that prophethood has come to an end with the Holy Prophet Muhammad, and after him mujaddids will arise among Muslims in every century to support the cause of Islam, the present mujaddid being Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.

1. The first article, entitled Haqqaniyyat-i Islam (The Truth of Islam), is by Mirza Mahmud Ahmad himself, in which he writes:

“Therefore, for this reason, God the Most High has established the institution of mujaddids in Islam. Because of this, people who are in a weak and fallen condition become strong and powerful, and having been purified of all their flaws they gain the strength to do good works. It is only Islam that can be proud of this, while other religions are deprived of it. Only this religion claims that its followers in every age can receive revelation from God, and it is in this religion that at the end or the beginning of every century a man arises who rescues the world from sin and evils.” (pages 126–127)

2. In the second article, entitled Id-ul-Adha by Hafiz Abdur Rahim, it is written:

“I believe that all the prophets that came brought the same principles as are the principles of Islam. As proof of this, we put forward the following testimony, that every prophet has taught the Unity of God, which is the root of Islam. Then just as the Christians created Trinity, other religions too became corrupted. Therefore God the Most High sent prophets again and again. At last, God brought this institution of prophethood to an end with the Holy Prophet Muhammad. He was granted a religion perfect and true in every way, combining together all the virtues that had previously been given separately to various prophets, or those which were required in the future. Accordingly, Allah the Most High says in the Holy Quran: ‘This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and chosen for you Islam as a religion’. Then after him, to prevent any damage befalling this religion as had happened with other religions, God the Most High appoints from Himself a mujaddid at the head of every century who revives the religion.

By the grace of Allah, there is such a mujaddid today, about whom there are various prophecies in the scriptures of all the religions of the world, and all the religions foretell this as the time of that mujaddid.” (pages 147–148)

3. In an article in the May 1908 issue, it is written:

“Regarding the Holy Quran, Allah the Most High said at the outset: ‘We have revealed it and We shall safeguard it’. Now we see that safeguarding is both as regards the meaning and as regards the text. Safeguarding of the text took place in this way, that whenever any verse was revealed the companions immediately used to memorise it and proclaim it among friend and foe, and the Holy Prophet himself used to get it written down and save it with him. Safeguarding of the meaning took place in this way that God the Most High sends a mujaddid or imam at the head of every century who teaches people the Quran according to the needs of the time and refutes the objections and attacks made against Islam …

Allah has at this time appointed a man as mujaddid, and because in this age the Anti-Christ and the Cross had become very dominant, so this mujaddid has been given the name Messiah on account of being the healer to treat this illness.” (pages 172–173)
